Default Compression issue?

Well, I am adjusting my valves today. I just bought the car a month ago and it seems like they haven't been adjusted in a really long time (the car was noisy, plus the gaps were way loose when adjusting). So far i've done 2 cylinders, the 1 and 3. But when i was turning the crank pulley to adjust TDC there was air seeping from what it sounded like the #3 cylinder (i hadn't taken the spark plugs out). It seemed like the compression would build a little when i was turning the pulley and then it would escape. Is this a normal thing or is the air not supposed to escape? and if it isn't normal could it be the spark plugs leaking the air? or could it be something more serious? the car doesn't appear to be burning any oil and it doesn't smoke at all so i don't think it is a piston ring or anything. Anyone have any suggestions???
btw i have a 92 gs-r.

It is normal. The piston rings do not form a perfect seal.

Yup. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to crank it manually.
