does this engine look like it has several miles left in it? pics are from when the engine had 120,000 miles on it. the head and block were resurfaced b/c the head gasket was leaking internally and externally. is the black(is that carbon) on the pistons and valves bad. i'm guessing all engines with several thousand miles would have that. thanks for all the help and if u need more info i will try to get it. i'm thinking of buying this crx that has this engine in it.

did you do a compression test???? Was it burning\blowing oil?

It looks fine. but to be very honest, since you have the head\motor apart. Ide replace the rings.

I cant see how well the Cylinder walls are. If theres Still Cross hatching I think you will be alright. but if its like a mirror, ide pull the rods\pistons and hone the cylinder walls, get a nice cross hatching, get some new rings and new bearings. basicly a brand new motor after that.

the engine is in a car that i'm thinking of buying. i will keep an A6 in the car to stay in a lower class in autox rather than doing an engine swap and being in a high class. i don't know if it burnt oil or if it had a compression test done. i was just wondering if anyone could tell by looking at the engine if it looked like it would run strong for a good while.

Yeah that is true, but why are you comparing a DOHC against a SOHC. I have seen SOHC take off on DOHC, it all depends how much money and work is put in to the motor. some will say LS- VTEC > B16 again it all depend on money and work put in to the motor.

You can't tell how much life is left in a motor by just looking at it. Do a compression test and see what you get. If the compression is good and it dosen't make any "noise" from the motor then it should be OK to run.
