1988 IDLE PROBLEMS
hey all! i posted on here a few weeks ago about repairing my carb. which i already did and your comments were very helpful. but repairing the carb didnt help my problem. the problem with my car is that it is a manual and wont idle at all! i replaced the fuel filters (both) and rebuilt the carb and also replaced all the fuel/vacuum hoses and it still wont idle. before i worked on the carburetor the car would pretty much die after it got below 2200 RPMs...well it actually just wouldnt flat out die it would more or less free fall to 0 RPMS and if i didnt give it gas before it got to 0 RPMs (i had about 3 seconds to give it gas once it got below 2200RPMs) it would die. well after i replaced all those things and repaired the carb it ran better but it still doesnt idle...instead of "free fallin" at around 2200 RPMs it "free falls" once it get to around 1400 RPMs. my mechanic told me to just replace the whole carb but that is expensive and i just put a lot of time and money into repairing the carb (i am a poor college student). does anyone have any advice for me ? thanks!
also i read online that you can fairly easily replace ur 88 honda accord LX carb with a prelude 2.0 duel carb. is there any truth to this? they say all you need is the carb, manifold, and vacuum box (is supposedly adds roughly 10-15 horses to your car). and if i do have to replace my whole carb can anyone tell me where i can find a cheap one online (the cheapest i can find in my area is 225 bucks new because none of the junk yards around me will sell them to me used). i could careless if its new or used i just want it to work and be cheap...i dont plan on having this car for more than a year or two. thanks again!

you also need the head for that swap, and you have to do machine work to the head. not exactly something you're really going to want to get into.
to me, it sounds like the carb isn't adjusted right. over in the how-to section at 3geez.com, there is a walk-thru for adjusting the carb. that's what i'm betting is going wrong.
