Default EF with B series swap: how hard to remove black PVC box?

Hey guys,

I'm getting close to wehen I have to drop my B18C back in my CRX and getting it BAR certified. Once I do that though, I'm gonna install all my turbo stuff. One of the things I need to do is replace the two 14mm allen plugs on the back of the block with barbed fittings.

I need to run the black box to pass emmisions and the BAR. Once I do that is there enough clearance behind the block to remove that black box? The black box needs to be removed so I can use the second allen port for my barbed fitting. If I cant remove the black box, then I may only have to run one line for my block catch can, or I have to use the black box and hook it up to my catch can.

So do you guys know if the black PVC box can be taken out while the motor is in the car?

TIA

the black box could be taken out while the engine is in the car with no intake manifold. i havent tried it with the manifold inplace, but i have with it out. the top fitting that goes from the can to the block would be difficult to get off w/o removing the intake manifold. i'm sure it could be done though.

edit: the 14mm plugs are also a ton easier w/o the intake mani inplace.

Right now the motor is out, so I removed the two plugs, and I'm gonna clean the plug and hole threads with some break free and brake cleaner. Then I can put them back in place so then it would be a snap to remove it even if the motor is in. The black box is a different story.

So the black box cant be removed from underneath?

in stock form the pvc valve is useful, but when you add boost it does not function properly.

to get around this and still allow your engine to breathe, you remove the pvc, add some additional vents to your block, and route these to a catchcan. it also eliminates your engine sucking up the crankcase vapours.

thats a pretty basic rundown, for a more detailed look, check out posts by username dasher, hes got a good thread about it all.
