advance timing...what does it do?

Default advance timing...what does it do?

"advance timing" what are the effects?

Well I'm going to assume you meant ignition timing.

Ignition timing is measured in degrees BTDC (Before Top Dead Center). Top dead center is when the piston is at the very top of it's stroke. If your timing was 16 degrees BTDC then when the plug fired the crankshaft would still have to turn 16 degrees to get the piston all the way up.

Advancing your timing is not the greatest idea if you don't know what you are doing. The gains from it are normally pretty minimal compared to the risk.

because my b16a, the distributor was advanced, and i adjusted it to the middle and it runs weaker now...

Well did you check the timing with a timing light or did you just see that it was advanced on its mounts?

You need to check your timing with a timing light because it might have needed to be there to be in spec.
