since you guys know the S2000
I'm FINALLY about to go and start test driving and checking many S2000's out.
since you guys own (i hope) atleast ONE S2000, can you tell me what i need to look out for, anything specific that i can check before driving, while driving, the exterior, interior. I would really appriciate it, as i have never been in one, and since you lot are the connoisseurs of this particular vehicle.
many thanks
Alex

Are you buying an AP1 or AP2? AP1's have a few things you need to look for...the AP2's, really the only things that have been a common pesterance are the ignition lock sometimes doesnt disengage, preventing you from being able to arm the alarm on the car or lock the doors with the remote. Other than that, i dont think there was really anything that people commonly had issues with.
Take your time when you look. Check body lines and inspect the paint for accidents or repainting. Check the under carraige, especially the front for damage to the bumper. Check VIN #s, check just the last few on each. Look under the hood and see if you can tell if its ever been modified. If you are serious, have Honda check it out for $80. CARFAX is also a great idea.
one thing to look for on the AP2s (04+) - many of them (including mine) have the rear bumper that doesn't line up perfectly with the rear quarter panels (underneath the headlights). this seems to be somewhat common...not a huge deal for me but i'm sure it would bother some people...
good luck with your search

I'm in the same boat. But the Dealership down the street was asking way too much (2003/18Kmiles/stone chips on front and side plus scratches from bottoming out the front/ $26K firm) so going private seller probally.
Is there anyway to tell if the person really tore up the car during the break in period?
Is getting an 02/03 with less then 40k miles for around $21k reasonable in Maryland?

I'm not sure about the Maryland market, but I think you're pushing the limits at that price...the only ones with that kind of mileage I've seen sell for 21 or 22 are 00s and 01s...you might slip up on a nice 02, but if you're looking for an 02/03 let me suggest buying an 03 if for no other reason than the glass rear window...
If you ever come to Florida, I'll get ya a good deal on a certified one...=P

Glass windows started with the 02 models, FYI.
I saw good deals on S2k's, but seems like they're all east coast. Also, FL might have a higher market value, since you can drive the S year-round.

My uncle works at a dealership and could probaly cut me a decent deal it's just a matter of waiting till a good one comes his way. I just got an 05 Chev Malibu LS (V6) from him for $17,500 and thats after taxes and tags and everything. The GM website said it should have cost $22K beofre taxes and tags and this was before the whole emplpyee pricing. Since he deals with both the Chevy & Honda dealership he could probly cut me a deal but I don't know how much of one.
I was figuring 22k-23k for a clean one and 21k-22k for one that took a few stones and scratches.

As for my previous post, I'm a dumbass and yes the glass window started in 02, I was thinking 2 as in the second year, which they didn't...which was 01...anyhow....*puts L to forhead*
As far as a discount...you have to also take into consideration that GM and Honda are probably as far apart as humanly possible when it comes to the way they market their vehicles. GM would rather sell you a Malibu for 17 and say you saved 5 grand than to just admit you're buying a 17 thousand dollar car....Honda is not that way, there are no Rebates on Hondas, nor will we ever have some lame "Employee Pricing please buy this crap before we go under" structure...=P
But on the used side it's anyone's game...if he can slip in during the cold months and steal one from an auction line, mash on it! Just be careful of the typical used car things...

The winter is what I'm waiting for. Will probaly have about $4k- $5k as a down and a loan is no issue. Being 27, married, house insurance, 3 cars and 2 drivers all under the same plan my insurance comp shouldn't screw me too bad.
Also my wifes '94 Chrylser LHS is kinda going down hill so if I go in looking for 2 cars I might be able to make out decently.
Well if you see me online giddy as hell in like 4 or 5 months then you will know why.
