Default Summit Battery Relocation Kit Questions.

Some one on here suggested to use this kit to relocate your battery to the trunk. I've been meaning to purchase the Summit kit for 50 dollars... the one with the box, straps, etc...

Has anyone used this OTHER summit kit that is in that link? I just want some opinions on it. Is there anything else i would need to secure the battery? thanks in advance.

Call your local Autozone and see if they have a "East Penn Hold Down Universal Crossbar"

Then all you would have to do is buy the correct size and length bolt to go through the black tabs on the hold down kit. They dont have to be J bolts, regular bolts will work too, just get some 1" or 1.5" diameter flat washers. Find somewhere to drill through on the rear passenger side of the trunk. Right behind the right rear wheelwell is a good place. If you look underneath the car in this area there is a beam going from front to back. You can drill through this and insert your long bolts through here. Put a flat washer on your long bolt then feed it underneath the trunk through the hole you drilled. Use a nut that has the nylon lockwasher inside of it.

the summit kit in the link has the "cross bar"... it basically has everything u described.. so would u say that for 20 bucks... i should just go for it.

I did call autozone.. and lets just say.. they were less then helpfull. Also called about 3 other stores around here and all their kits are around the 50 dollar range.

Anyone else with opinions on this cheap summit kit.

You dont have to get the kit, You can find all the stuff at any local Autozone and audio shop. I was just suggesting it so you can get it in your town instead of ordering it. I got the summit kit with the big black box, but later I saw the same parts at my local Autozone. The only things I didn't use for my Summit kit was the J bolts cause I replaced them with big washers and regular long bolts. I also had to do a lot of cutting to the battery box so it would fit where my battery was. Right now though I dont even use the battery box, and I wont until I start drag racing the car and the techs check the car.

I think that the tech inspectors at drag racing events check for that stuff though. I think if your battery is relocated it has to have a vented box and kill switch. I'd look up the correct reg, but I'm feeling kinda lazy right now, hehehe. Check out pg 2 or 3 of the FAQ sticky and look for the batter box sticky I posted. The regs for battery box relocationg are in that thread.
