Need some egine and advice
Hey I'm new to this part of the forum. I don't know much about EF's, but there is an 89' Honda Civic sedan forsale down the street from me. I want to pick it up for a DD for the winter so I can garage my EM1.
Bad Things
-Rust
-Engine burns oil and smokes
-I want to swap a jdm d15b into this car so I have a fresh motor for the winter. Want all do I need for this swap? I know I need the tranny and motor. But do I need a new wiring harness, ecu and all that good stuff also?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I don't need this exact engine but it looks to be a good swap to do. Like I said before I own and EM1 and I personally have never worked on an EF or a single cam. I am just looking for some info on this swap and other possibilities and parts I will need before I make this purchase. Thanks

you will need engine, you can use the tranny thats in the car along with the axles, it will drop right in, if your car is dpfi, you will need to convert to mpfi, also does that engine have vtec, if so you will need to wire that up, for wiring i recomend going to rywire.com he is droppedcrxsi, on here, and he does a great job, and also many other people will recomend him

um... for the swap itself it should just be a direct bolt on, as for the rest i have no idea (shift linkage, tranny, all that good stuff), im not a fan of d series, im a b series guy
like what was previosly said, u will need a mpfi harnes if ur running dpfi, im guessing its vtec so more wiring, but not that difficult

First off, what motor is in it? If it is already a D-series, find a good condition USDM used motor in the marketplace and just drop the beast in there (reccomend the good old base model D15B2, it hasn't failed me yet with DD duties), maybe $100-$200 based on the quality of the motor. If the existing block is DPFI, go with the D15B2 and just leave the intake manifold with the car, it is a direct bolt on, no major work. If you are doing the DPFI-MPFI or vice versa, just be prepared to spend a little more money and time as the ease of transition is similar, but you will need to find an appropriate intake manifold and TB (I reccomend the 89-91 D16 Si intake setup for ease of transition, low cost, and direct bolt on capability; just be prepared to rewire the beast).
^^ I am not exactly sure what motor is currently in the car. It is the stock motor , so whatever came stock in a 1988 Honda Civic Sedan. I am not looking for anything fast or powerful. Just enough to get me around during the winter season. So the USDM D15B2 is a direct bolt in swap. I can run the existing ECU with this motor?
alright the jdm d15b vtec and usdm d15b2 are two entirely different motors. first off figure out which one you want. the d15b2 is whats in that car already..so just get the car and find another motor to swap right in for winter dd duty. you can pick up that motor for anywhere between 50-200 bucks.
if you want a little more power, just convert to mpfi and get a si d16a6 or single/dual cam zc and run that for cheaper than d15b vtec.
what part of pa you from?

what .MichaeL saidfyi... I am doing the same thing you are, I just purchased a used USDM D15B2 for $100 delivered to my front door. I will be rebuilding it and swapping it into my hatch, but you can find them really cheap in pretty good condition. Just keep the DPFI and swap that beast into the sedan, man! This would be a perfect time to get a new clutch and all that other garbage, keep that winter DD in good condition before winter starts.
