use a c-clamp on it to press down on it or a smack with a hammer does the trick. I have even been able to just push down on it, once u start getting it tight it will hold itself and pull itself in

Well, aside from the fact I NEVER disconnect ball joints to change an axle, I have changed knuckles and ran into this problem. What I do, is take a file and score the shaft coming out of the ball joint up pretty good. I then take a rat tail style file and score the hole in the top of the knuckly up pretty good also. This will allow the shaft to bite into the hole and keep it from spinning.

Air also helps to put some serious speed on the castle nut and get it tight. Don't forget to lube up those threads also.

ill do something like what he said if i really need to.

ill try impact gun first tho, if thats available. the impact helps thread it in without moving the balljoint.

but nowadays, i just chase the threads on the nut and the balljoint. i bought some 10x1.25 and 12x1.25 tap and die. makes everything much easier instead of fighting it. i used to just buy new castle nuts, but rethreading it makes it as good as new. ive saved a few other bolts and parts as well.
