Default weird charging problem

hello,
car is a 91 civic std, the other day i jumped in the car and the battery was very very low, (the car hadn't been moved in awhile, i figured, whatever) so we push started it, and it ran fine, drove it for 10ish mins, then parked it again.
next day, jumped in the car, and there is no battery power at all...so i swapped in a known good battery, and the car started right up, but i needed this battery for my other car, so i drove it up a hill, put in dead battery, and push started it again, it started up just fine

this is where things get weird, the "brake" warning light appears, the e-brake handle is down and the resivor is full, the light was somewhat dim, and would dim (almost dissapear) as the engine rpm's climbed

i know i have a bad alternator, but shouldnt the charging light be appearing?

p.s. another weird thing before i parked the car, rolling to a stop, the car threw a quick cel, made clicking noises and then died.

anyone have any ideas?
