Default My friend owns an s2000

I tried using your search to find this info, but it didnt work how i wanted it to (aka i didnt find the answer.

Anyways, my fri--...aquaintance/soontobericerboy has an 01 s2000 with these modifications :

TSR custom exhaust (single pipe)
AEM cold air intake w/ bypass
Neuspeed sport springs
Nitto 555R drag radials

and now has great claims of a 12.9 quarter mile pass, 283 hp (19 from the intake, 24 from switching to the single pipe exhaust) and the ability to beat a E46 M3.

From my perspective, these claims are quite ridiculous, and i have little doubt that he's stretching the truth...but what is realistically expected from a car like this?

I don't want to beat him in a race, or anything of that nature, but i'd be happy being able to have proof against his ignorance.

19 hp from an intake is pretty ridiculous...

LOL

no wait.... let me sit down... ok.

LOLOLOLOLOL

oh yes, LOL... next time you see your friend, tell him to turn around, because all you can smell is the **** coming from his mouth.

HP gains from intakes are 1-3, maybe 4 TOPS! The guy *might* be at 200hp at the wheels. Most range from 190-205 at the wheels from the factory. Highest I've seen is 207. And squeezing 280+ HP at the wheels would require forced induction or a nitrous kit that would require changing plugs per run.

Also, watch what he says when he blows the diff. Soon, oh so soon.

I totally understand the @the wheels deal...and i definitely knew the intake is a 5hp or less modification...just wanted to hear it from another source

luckily i don't exactly hang out with this kid...but i've had to stick my hand in the "vtec just kicked in" discussion with him and a few other n00bie mistakes.

Another thing though...i would expect the single pipe to help since most 4cyl cars have it stock, but is there a real benefit for you guys? My car has a true dual, and i've read a bit on the argument over a single exhaust...but his car sounds..ricey now and i'd really like to think he did it for a reason

Tell him to put Type R stickers on his car to gain more hp.

that pretty much sounds like my car. LOL. here is the thing... AEM probably does make one of the highest HP gains for intakes, at least i've seen WITH a dyno. as for exhaust its not the fact they have make power, but rather the weight they cut out. By no means does this put the car any where near the 12sec range.
i have yet to dyno my car with mods... but i'm guessing i'll be around 210-215 rwhp. that plus the fact i have i've cut almost about 100lbs off stock weight. plus running light weight wheels. should put my wet weight of the car to about 2750lbs with fluids.
Since i've never 1/4 tracked my car the only thing i can tell you is this.
At the track i pulled on my buddy's EG w/ GSR and CRT Cams. Intake, header, exhuast. so however fast that car is mine is quicker. it was also stripped.

Regarding the single out - we do have a single out, well, not really. It is split out in the rear of the car. This actually causes a slight loss in power. You are better off just having a single pipe that goes out without anything else in replace of a cat-back exhaust. Loud? Yea. But light and optimal for performance.

A word of advice - let the guy make his own mistakes and flaunt his own BS. Just keep giving him that look that you can see right through it - without saying anything at all. That will get under his nerves. But telling him he's full of crap, he doesn't care. He's there to give other guys a boner from his uber-performance gains and vast sum of knowledge.

Instead of letting him make mistakes--why not guide him--don't tell him he is full of crap, try to educate him on what these mods actually can acomplish on an s2000...

its frustrating when people make bullshit claims. most people talk **** about others behind thier back when you would get more accomplished if you would just call him on it to his face.

he probably isnt completley ful of **** about beating m3s. it happens.

but he isnt running 12.9s

he probably bought some parts and the people who sold him the parts told him that they would make x amount of power. he probably raced an m3 from a roll and beat it. so he probably then assumed that he runs a 12.9 because and m3 runs a 13.x and he tried to guess how that compared.

i would assume that this guy is a douche bag as most people are, and before lone his assumptions turned into "fact"

my advice, tell him he's wrong and do so in a way that is not an attack on his credibility but rather imply that he is mistaken. when he gets defensive and tells you you're wrong, then take him down to china town
