Default B16A2 swap: vss to cable questions

I am putting a B16A2 into a 1990 civic wagon and i have read all through the archives and i still do not understand this so please help me understand. The B16 has an electronic speed sensor at the trans, and my trans now is cable operated. I want to still have my speedometer work after the swap, so do i change the sensor on the B16 trans to a cable type(and what sensor can i use to convert my B16 trans to cable)? And if i do this will vtec still engage? i thought that the ecu needed to see engine speed above 17mph before vtec would engage. I am using an obd0 to obd1 conversion harness in order to still use my stock harness. I know you guys might have answered this before but i cannot find anything answering these questions and i am still confused about all of it.

well you can use a cable type vss in the hydro tranny. Or you can use the electronic vss and convert to a guage cluster that uses electronic vss

so if i use the cable type in the hydro tranny then vtec will still work? and it works because the cluster sends a speed signal to the ecu?
