why is the replacement of the radiator cap part of a maintenance?

Default why is the replacement of the radiator cap part of a maintenance?

I noticed that some people change their radiator cap on a regular basis, can someone explain to me the purpose behind it?

It is recommended to change the cap when changing the coolant, mainly because the spring inside the cap tends to get weaker over time.

Also, in extreme occurences, the rubber gasket deteriorates in the cap.
