Default Determining an engine gen.

I bought a 3rd gen b16a2 from http://www.tokyoautoparts.com back in september. I recently put it on the dyno and came out with 136.7 whp. Looking closer at the engine, the head of it had 91 stamped into it and pr3-1 on it as well.

Engine was swapped into my 99 civic coupe, Si CDN, EX US. obd1 jdm ecu.

Bottom end has the ser. no. starting with a 5, plus hydro tranny and p30 intake manifold, and all brackets are p30, even head gasket is p30. How can i tell exactly what it is for year wise?

Called honda dealer ship, they told me that i was to take the valve cover off, and check the tubing for the plugs. According to him it is confirmed it has 3rd gen internals, with possibly a first gen head. He also stated that the jdm heads stamps meant nothing for year wise regardless of what was stamped on there.

So, in all, im wondering what the hell gen my engine is made up off of. Also, if it helps, the dyno:

if you have the valve cover off as well look at the cam tower caps. the hydro gen's are extruded aluminum and look shiny. the cable gen cam towers are cast aluminum and look like they have lots of pimples ion them.

From the info you gave, it sounds like you got screwed. Call them up and tell them you want a refund for the difference in price on the engine you paid for, and the engine you received. Good luck

i think its a 2nd gen B16A.

1st gen B16's were all cable transmision's.

2nd gen like in teh XSi integra's, had a hydro tranny. and i belive the infoumus 5XXXXX serial numbers.

i know for a fact the 5XXXX serial, and the P30 pistons are 2nd gen. and 170 HP. but why your head says 91 is strange to me.

but like everyone said, unless you didn't do the swap yourself, why did you buy a engine with OBD0 plugs and sensors?

its a 2nd gen for sure. hydro tranny and obd1, as well as the ser no starting in 5.

as for the head, they prestamped the heads on them even though they were the other gens. IE 91 stamped can be a 92 or 93, as well as a head stamped 95 can be a 3rd gen 96 or 97.

everything else is atleast a 2nd gen, and worst case the head is first gen, which i dont get.

holiday today, so place was closed, going to call again tomorrow and see wtf is up.

anything else i can do to check the year?

They might have taken the block from one engine, the head from another engine, and sold you the leftovers. That might explain it...

well, all 5 series blocks are 2nd gen. they didnt have P30's in OBD0.

so im currious to see if honda had a 1st gen head laying around, and put it on that block, or if homeboy swaped it on you.

either way, doenst really seam shaddy, unless the engine doens't run right.

cuz belive me, ive seen some crazy **** before... like WFT block ID's... non normal codes, like F32A.. and some even blank.
