Wow that sucks man! Sorry to hear that. Especially since the Evo is the one Greddy promoted that was under the 95dB California State code. I actually called Greddy up on this issue awhile ago, and they said the legal paperwork comes with the exhaust system when purchased new from them or an authorized distributor. (or so they say) I got my used off of ebay and they told me, basically, I was SOL. They recommended I go to a local authorized distributor (in my case Pann Auto) and they gave me the same final answer that Greddy gave me. If I don't have the original reciept from an authorized dealer or from Greddy themselves, they won't get me new paperwork stating that it's under 95dB. I don't know if that's BS or not, but that's the answers I got from Greddy and Pann in regards to wanted paperwork. In my case, I didn't care since I got it off eBay for $150 used. So far though, if you don't get paperwork, and still have the ticket, you may have to fight it and have the ref test it for sound levels.

Edit: Wait your in NY and you got an exhaust ticket? Im shocked. But your going to have to go through your state laws to see what you could do. But still try Greddy.

there's one of these threads every week lol. Look, same thing happened to me about two years ago. here's what you do:
contact your local community college or possibly any college. get their automotive department.
the auto techs at the college perform decibal checks for i believe just a small fee. after you pass, assuming you do, they give you a piece of paper will the decibal level and all the info about the test and a nice little sticker to put on the back of the fix-it ticket you got.
take that to court with you and the officer won't know what to do. problem solved
(for reference, i had a full greddy catback EVO-1 on a 99 ex. only other mod was aem CAI. passed the test about 15 decibals below the legal limit.

went through the same thing in va..... resolution
if you have a silencer or can get ahold of one.... put it in and go to court officer will have to go outside and verify that you did something to correct the problem.
or like the other guy said get a decibel reading... but first in accordance to the db reading you need to look up the NY State Police website and they usually have a link to state legislature laws & codes and look for the law PRINT IT out and get the CODE. READ CAREFULLY some give you the actual db for violation and they throw in a bullshit sentence stating that if it can be heard from xxxft then you are in violation and if it is other than factory you are in violation....
so say you bought the car with it on and you didn't know better.
Usually going in with all this they throw it out and give you a warning unless you get a *** of a JUDGE or this like your 10th violation
GOOD LUCK

just fyi to above poster, Greddy doesn't make a silencer. and yeah i didn't notice he was from NY...legal decibal limit may be different in cali.
lol, this always comes up. But with these muscle cars, so called. Oh well we aren't gonna get into that. Its gonna be another LONG debate! But I suggest you go to court then tell them you got it fixed, they'll give you a slap on the wrist with a warning. Well atleast thats what I got. Good Luck!
