is my tranny supposed to look like this
my axle wont go into my tranny on the driverside, so i looked in the hole and there is this bar in there that seems to be keeping the axle out so i messured and there isn't enough room for the axle to go in without hitting this.
i did my clutch 6 months ago and have been driving around like this since leeking tranny fluid.
so what is this...

this is the space...

and this is me leeking fluid all over the place...

That bar is the pinion pin, and it should be there. It does look like your axle seal is in too far. How did you measure the depth of the differential socket? if you used the same axles after the clutch, it must work, unless the pinion pin is excessively worn or broken. Is there a shitload of slop in the drivetrain that causes jerking when you are driving?
i used a tape measure and just stuck it in the hole the just transfered it to the axle and there wasn't enough room by like a half an inch. yeah my car jerks alot i thought it was the turbo, but yeah in first and reverse sometimes it feels like pee wee herman is in my back seat. ha ha. i guess thats a problem.

what i usually do is lay the axle seal on the hole, and then use the axle to seat the seal.

slammed down.

and then after you slam the axle in, and pull it back out, you should have this kind of clearance on the seal.

and that link has a ton of pics, no words, just pics of how to change axles seals.

adrena, from one of the pics it looks like the axle is in all the way, but from the dark one it's hard to tell, and yes you did hit the seal in kinda deap, but that wouln't effect sealing aslong as you cleaned the seal area on the axle shaft. You've already driven it? if so what happend?
give it another hard whack.. and i think that leak is coming from else where.
looks a little too dark to be tranny fluid if you say you had the clutch replaced not too long ago.

when i set axles.. i usually use the hub's weight as a driver to seat the axle in.
example.. when doing a axle job, you have to release the lower ball joint, to move the hub out and walk the spindle out.. so in installation, i'll use the hub as a hammer... while its rocking on the upper control arm, and the tie rod, i will slam it into place, and then i thread the bolt of the lower control arm.
a really long time ago in my CRX, i had a small tranny leak, and for some reason the stick would pop out of 5th on the freeway. long story short, i had a hybrid swap in my whip, and used some custom axles, and my my expansion clip was too tight, and my axle kept walking out.
so check that... im sure your axle is in all the way, you just need to adjust that axle seal.
physically, does it drive right? no weird noises or vibrations?

when i drive it sounds like a cv joint going bad like when i brake and accelerate it bangs but not so much around corners. i have another axle off my y7 and the wouldn't seat all the way either. i did my clutch myself and when i finished the axle just wouldn't go back in. so eventually i said screw it and just started driving on it. goin to track and everything drove fine accept leaked alittle. but now it sounds bad so i decided to take another crack at it. and i measured, there is physically not enough room between that bar in first pic and the opening on the tranny. i've beat it and turned it and humped it and nothing working.
i aprecite everyone help though. thanks h-t

you measured it? dude..
ive NEVER heard a diff comming apart and physicaly wouldn't let the axle go all the way in... but then on the other hand, just make alittle noise and leak.
if the diff is comming apart, the wheels won't turn. trust me.. ive broke diff's on N20.
