if you have an alarm i am 96.3% sure it is your valea switch. if you wiggle it like 5 or six times or whatever the engage is on your alarm it will turn the alarm off completely and if you wiggle it again it will turn it back on, but i think you have to wiggle it a certain amount of times kinda fast. if done corecctly the siren will make a noise and the lights will blink just like if you activated your alarm.
hmmm i bought the car like that, and i didnt get a remote or anything, but i also noticed some alpine cilinder on top of my engine bay under the hood i think that powers the alarm? anyone know were i can get the rest of the alarm? haha
the cylinder thingy "under the hood" should be the siren and if you go to your local car audio/alarm place they should be able to get you a remote. make sure to look under your dash for a box looking thingy with lots of wires going to it (alarm box) because you have to look at the brand since only some car audio/alarm places disstribute different brands, so if it is an alpine make sure the company deals with alpine alarms.

you said you switched the switch.. so i'm assuming it's not a push button, but a toggle switch. If that's the case, your car most likely has a remote start unit in it. Typical valet switches are a little black push button switch.
