Is the just a weird idea?
So I wanna get an engine stand and put up a d series in my basement and just look at it. Am I nuts? I think I may be, but does anyone set up engines inside to work on them and what not? Also, what kind of stand do you suggest for the old d series? Thanks.
um there was a guy on ht one time who built i believe a b series engine in his basement, then when it was all together he had no way to get it out of the basement, so its been done before but not the brightest idea
What are you trying to say?
Building a motor on a stand in the basement? Not a bad idea, just make sure the area is clean and dust free, and plan on possibly making a mess and having parts all over the floor for weeks to come.
Putting a motor on a stand just to LOOK at it - is it hard enough to pop your hood everytime just to get a peek? Don't worry, its a SOHC, its not going anywhere

I'm trying to say the first one, with an emphasis on the fact I don't really have a reason to be building the motor. Hehe

As long as you can get it out of the basement I see no problem working on it in there...You'll probably make a huge mess in the basement if you don't prep it somehow beforehand.

I just got an engine stand from harbor frieght for 50$ shipped to my door. got my GSR swap all taken apart and ready for a build.
If you were to be building this Its a must, its really the only way to get the oil pan off without messing up the valve cover or top of block.
But if your just getting it to say "hey guys look at my SOHC D" then ide say its a waste of 50$

Sweet, that's a good price on that stand. I think I might be able to get my hands on one for free, but I woll prolly end up doing a diesel rebuild as an experiment with grease, so who knows. I have seens lots of stands on ebay for like 30 shipped, but I am wondering about their quality. What do you guys think?
