Default 97 civic EX window's off-track...AGAIN!

My driver's side window is off-track again.

It rolls up fine for the first halfway, then gets stuck and starts clanking.

Then, I grab the window with my hand, and pull the window up for another inch or two until it "catches", then it goes up again until the very top, where it makes a clanking noise and jumps up and down like it's missing/not catching or something. Then I have to pull it up manually to the top.

I'm going to pull the door panel, check for loose/missing bolts, lube it up with silicon lubricator, and put it back together.

Are there any tips to battling this problem? I hear it's common on 96-00 civic EX's with power windows.

it's happened to me 3 times in just as many months. the second time i was coming home late at night, then it started raining real bad and the drivers side window wouldn't go more than 1/2 way up. i got wet as hell

i can fix it in like 10 minutes now so i really don't care if it happens again. i guess i slam my door too hard or something.

check your window regulator. mine did that and it was my window regulator. got a new one and didnt have to deal with that again.

Honda has a service bulletin on these. Either you replace the run channel and/or the regulator.

Mine was fixed 3 or 4 times under warrenty. I have a 97 coupe as well and it is a pain in the ***.
The best fix is to keep the track lubed up really well. I do it once a month or so....and haven't had the problem in a year now. It use to happen once every few months.

I remeber this problem with my '97

the first time it happened under warranty, and they tried to tell me that my aftermarket speakers and wiring was causing it to roll up slow :morons:

I told them to eat a dick, and they didn't charge me.

then it happened again and again...
I learned how to fix it and fix it fast in the rain!

keeping it well lubed helps, and adjusting it when it starts to roll up slow.

mine has only come off once on the drivers side in the 5 yrs I've had it. It sucked too because it was in the winter time and cold as ****. Mine has always rolled up slow, passenger side is slower and that one doesn't get used as much either.

My window has been coming off track, come to find out the window track itself, the rubber piece, is ruined. The glass has been broken in the past, and the pieces of glass tore it up.

Is it difficult to replace?

I know my driver side window has been replaced sometime before I owned it because on the glass it doesn't say honda like it does everywhere else.

Where can I get part numbers for the run channel and window regulator?

My buddy works at a Honda dealership.

i finally got around to ordering the run channels for both sides, but still need to undertake the task of getting them put in. anybody put them in themselves? i looked at the helms manual, and it wasn't much help.

BTW, part #'s for the run channels are:

72235-S03-G01 CHANNEL, R. FR.
72275-S03-G01 CHANNEL, L. FR.

cost me about $50 each from SLhondaparts.com
