JDM EG6 Headlights... can i modify H4's to make them fit?
I picked up some JDM EG6 headlights a few weeks ago, although my 9003 bulbs i had in my US housings dont fit correctly so the beam is like all off to the side (i forced em in just so i'd have SOME light). i know JDM housings take H4H's, but i heard somewhere that you can modify H4's somehow to make them work.... has anyone heard of this, and if so what do i have to modify to get them to work?

I don't believe you can without doing extensive modification to the headlight.

lol, not only do i no longer have the US headlights (traded them for the JDM ones) but also wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the JDM headlights? i wouldn't have my fancy city lights anymore
but yeah... i picked up some H4's and i wanna make sure i'll be able to install them before i open the packages...

It's possible, but there's a LOT of force on that thing metal bar that holds in the bulb. To get it to work better, you just need to do very little cutting on the flat metal part of the bulb housing that's between the prongs and the glass.
Yes-- it's possible. I might do it with some H4 bulbs I have lying around and get you some pics.

yeah, i searched on hybrids.jp and found a bunch of topics on this.
i read that you have to cut the metal ring around the bulb, but what i couldn't figure out is what do i use to (safely) cut that ring? angle cutters? dremel? what?

Exactly. Don't lose the badass city lights. Your going to have to modify the bulb entry in order to get it to fit correctly.

i have seen it done by people using a dremel or tin snips to modify the h4 bulb to fit.
or get some EDM headlights, they are the Shiet. they are glass, no nipples, have city lights and use a standard h4 bulb.
man i miss my civic, but i sold the edm headlights for $250

Wow, nice piece of advice. But how hard are they to come by?

well i got em in.
i ended up using the cutting wheel accessory on a dremel and cut off basically every part of metal around the bulb except for the 3 prongs, my bulbs look like a somewhat hacked up version of that H4H posted above^ and they popped right in and the beam is perfect!

Modifying a H4 bulb to work in a JDM headlamp housing takes more effort than just trimming the mounting base. If you look at both bulbs, the mount base is actually located higher on the H4 bulbs, thus bringing the bulb closer to the back of the headlight housing when installed. On the H4H bulb, it's out further so it'll reflect better around the chrome housing inside of the headlamp. If you don't change this and just stick a H4 bulb in the JDM headlamp, the light output won't be as good.
IMO, get some H4H bulbs (cheap everywhere now) or get some H4H HIDs (that some of us carry now
)

Then you get a small housing overall but lose the city light.
