Help car wont start
92 hatch stock d16 sohc motor. I just replaced the fuel pump.. the car willl turn over but as soon as I give it a little gas it shuts out.. what else could I check??? what else could it be???????/
where is the main relay located??????????????? also sometimes the fuel pump comes on and sometimes it wont... That was changed to a new one already.......
The main relay on your car is under the dash on the driver's side of the car, near the hood release lever. It is a little box with a big plug going into it, and it has a j-shaped bracket attahced to it held in place with a few 10mm bolts.
Also here's a way to diagnose it:
Turn the key into the "on" position, but do not start the car. Watch as the check engine light goes out, and listen for a "clink" noise from the hood relase lever area (where the main relay is).
If you hear a "click" the car will start, and the main relay is working right then, but if you hear no "clink" then the relay is bad, and you wasted time/money on a fuel pump.
BTW:
What type of fuel pump did you swap in? If you swapped in a new aftermarket one in then I'd swap it out for the old OE honda one - used honda is better than new aftermarket.

It actually is on some cars, but in the 1992-1995 Civic it's right by the hood relase area. Also in the DA Integras it's on the driver's side, but further up inside the dash - it's a PITA compared to the EG Civics.
On an EK the main relay is on the passenger side of the dash.

Awesome, I knew I've seen it on the passenger side before I believe it was an EK. Thanks for clearing that up.
