Default Help With 97' civic engine prob!!!

My car has been using up oil constantly ( about 7-8 quarts the last 3000 miles ) and it has been making knocking-like noises (which at first i attributed to my AEM V2 intake hitting the frame). recently my car just turned off when i made a left turn. I check the oil and found barely any in there (i had just filled it about 800 miles ago). I put another 4 quarts in and drove it around a bit. After about 30 min of driving the car starts to lose power on the freeway. Im flooring it in 5th gear and can get a max of 65mph. The power loss gets worse and worse until im flooring it in 2nd just to go 10 mph. During this time my car is making metal on metal grinding noises and extremely high knocking noises. Anyone have any ideas what it might be?

P.S.: ive had some oily-like deposits being spewed from my tailpipe when i turn my car on. The only reason I know is there's a small spatter of crap right where my tailpipe usually sits when my car is in my garage.

yep sounds like toast to me too.... buring that much oil you should've done something a lot sooner. Well one thing if your gonna replace it with a d series that should be fairly inexpensive. But which do you have the y7 or y8? If you have a y7 you can goto a y8 with ease.

might be a cloged line, can u see an oil leak when you park? it might be an O2 sensor along with the oil problem too try changing your fuel filter that doesn't cost much. if you can see an oil leak when u park try your oil pan gasket. o and do you have an oil breather on the valve cover? cuz if you do u m ight need to change it back to the line to your intake. check everywhere for a leak, make sure your O2 wires are good. you could have a pinched line somewhere. thats the best i can come up with... good luck

I dont really have the money for getting a new engine. I have a warranty, so I've been waiting for it to go out on itself. I'm *hoping* to get a B18c

haha, yeah. I know and you know but my warranty company wants to know what happened.

***Update***

I guess i overfilled the friggin oil by 4 full quarts. I have a hard time understanding how this happened when i had waited 2 hrs to check the oil the first time and then waited 6 hrs to do it again BEFORE i put more oil in. I heard that your supposed to wait about 1 hr for oil checks and my Honda dealer even stated that they do it as soon as 10 - 15 min after it has ran. I've NEVER heard of waiting more than 6 friggin hrs for an oil check but i guess i overfilled it. I wonder if im covered for my warranty if i have proof that I checked it hrs after it was off and it said *0* oil.

to me it sounds like the lines might be gummed up and not letting the oil get back to the bottom and it's staying at the top. It could be that whoever had it before didn't change their oil much.

Hahaha, thats funny. This old lady that lived next door from us was having car trouble, so she came over and asked us for help. The first thing she said, was that she had her oil changed, and that Jiffy Lube did not add enough oil. She apparently was upset, because she had taken off the oil cap, and the oil did not come up to the top, so she kept filling it up with quart after quart and still couldn't see it. She tried to crank the car up, because she wanted to go get more oil to top it off, and it wouldn't start.

She most likely had about 10 quarts of oil in there, if not more, hahaha.

While I'm telling funny stories, my friend's mom had a problem with her car overheating, so she decided to "fill up the radiator" because she thought it had run out of water. She ended up taking the oil cap off and filling the motor in her Volvo completely up with water.

Hmmm, unless your car is running REALLY hot, belching smoke out the back, or leaking oil like a sive....I'd say you've got a bizzare problem.

If your car is burping oil smoke while you drive then why in the name of god haven't you adressed the probelm before now? Losing 4 quarts after 800 miles is a pretty sever problem.
