thinking about buying this car. help me break it down.
alright..there's a guy selling this car locally..i've been trying to find another honda for a while and i'm thinking i like this car..however there's a few things i want to talk about and here some opinions in case i forgot something
1993 Civic Dx - 200,000 miles
d16y8 - "40,000" miles
t-25 turbo. 1st Gen DSM BOV
chrysler starion intercooler
440 injectors
skunk2 lowering springs.
no name 2.5 inch exhaust.
fat fives
cf duckbill
the ecu is a chipped p28. vtec set to engage at 3,200.
car was painted srt4 blue 4 months ago. everything but engine bay. which is still the stock blue.
he's asking 4,500.
i reviewed the car for a good half hour. it was around 9:30 at night, so the only light available was from the mini-mall we were at. checked for rust and didnt find any. i looked in the quarter panels..under the car..as behind the side skirts as i could. looked fine to me except for a quarter sized bubble just above the passenger side skirt. took a ride in it and it was pretty quick. rode nicely. a big concern of mine was the 3,200 rpm vtec engagement. that seems incredibly low..i've never seen it below 4,000 before.
my previous car was a 89 si hatch with a single cam zc. so this would be my first vtec equipped ride. i already checked the typical things you'd look for in a honda. is there anything i should be looking for? especially with it being turbo. (i'm gonna post a similar thread in forced induction, too for good measure.)
i appreciate any feedback ahead of time. i'm really hyped about the car..and i dont want to let that blind me when looking for any red flags.
edit: added injectors.

no. a single cam zc is the jdm crx/civic si motor. its pretty much a usdm d16 with a more aggresive cam.

check the turbo for shaft play and is the ecu programmed for vtec @ 3200 or is it a vafc? vtec hitting that early isnt hindering nor helping you i suggest you get the ecu reprogrammed for vtec to hit @ least around 5000..also is the car on an fmu or injectors? but besides that sounds pretty good to me

not quite sure how to check for shaft play. do i have to remove the turbo at all? he said its a chipped p28..idk. and there is a v-afc..or a s-afc..i'm not sure. its got four lines to it. its blue..and it shows the last rpm peak that you hit.

one of the first rules of buying a used car is to never go check it out in the dark. lol.
i'd suggest going to take a look at the car during the day.

find out what he's using as far as engine management... and the vtec point on a stock y8 is 5500... have someone take a look at it for you.
if you do buy it, take that bitch and tune it and rip out that afc..go uberdata or crome.

First thing is first, make sure it has been dyno tuned. I really don't know why he lowered the VTEC crossover to 3,200 RPM. If it hasn't been dyno tuned, don't get it. There might be irreversible damage already done. You don't want someone else's headache.

Exactly, make sure everything is well working condition before you buy it.

to check for shaft play is simple...just simply remove the intake on the turbo and feel the area umm i cant remember what it is called but just feel the spindle or w/e ask the owner to let you check the car out in the day...and i agree ditch the vafc they are basically *** and do nothing but fu** up your car
