Need Advice: Removing Dent
Hi,
I was wondering if I can get some opinions and advices from my fellow board members. I recently had a battle against a metal pole and I lost. The damage is minor(according to me) and it looks like the dent can be remove fairly easy. I was thinking of trying the dry-ice trick or remove the door panel and push the dent out. The dent looks shallow enough that it can just easily pop out but I know for sure that I would need a new driver side molding. Also, the dent is below the molding. It might look like the dent is underneth the molding but it's not. The molding took most of the impact and deformed leaving the metal underneth undamage. But I would need to get a new molding from somewhere. I would probably check out the For Sale section or local junkyard.
So, I was wondering what would you people do in this situation? Is the dent too deep enough that I should take it to the body shop? Or is it a easy dent removal by using simple techniques and/or tricks?

-Thanks

OUCH!..i would say minor damage too..I guess the choice to go to depends on what you wana do. From the pics, it looks like theres some scratches with the dent. IMO, I would try one of those drill-less dent pullers.Think you can buy them at pepboys or autozone. Those work for big dents like urs,but for small ones (ie. door dings) it wont work. But like i said, Its up to you. If u have the extra money for the bodyshop,go with bodyshop. If u wana try to save some cash, go with the dent pullers or like what u said, remove door panel and push it out.
If you go body shop, they might repaint the door for you.If you get the dent puller,it will be your dent puller,so if u have any more big dents,u can use it,or charge other poeple to use it...LOL

look up "Dent Dynamics" down here in san luis obispo. this guy pulls tons of dents for the dealer i work at and he's a WIZARD!!!! you'd be amazed. it'll probably run you a couple hundred bucks, but it's so worth it! metal is temperamental!
look for a door on car-part.com since you need to buy a new molding and get painted anyways. Should run you $300-$400. Hopefully you can find same color.
That's not the way to battle for "pole position"...

ditto, did this on my sister's accord after she got lightly T-boned... took most of the damage out.
if you're gonna do this, work from the outside in... if you try to pop it from the middle first, you stretch the metal, leaving you with a even worse door

I wouldn't recomend doing it yourself if you aint experienced. Also don't buy one of those cheap dent pullers, the dent will just pop back in cuz of the creases. It's just better saving up and paying someone and avoid the hastle and headaches, believe me.

a mini toilet plunger will work but its hard to get it to stay still. the thing your talking about is called "pops-a-dent" you can get it from the tv for 20 bucks....i have one.but if you use too much glue form the glue gun on the car it can rip the paint right off so be careful, and it wont look perfect. it will still be a dent just a different shape.
