I was T-Boned today and I wanted someones opinion on if this looks totaled or not. The wheel is not straight and the door doesn't shut quite right. Airbags did not deploy.
pretty good chance its totalled. if the inner structure behind the quarter panel is damaged when they take it off, theres a pretty good solid chance the value of your car now will not justify fixing anything.
heres a rough look at what would probably need to be done. Everything will need to be done with a charge by the bodyshop:
-remove and replace the rear quarter glass,
- cut out and remove and replace the quarter panel with a new/used oem/aftermarket part, (assess damage to the inner structure if any. this could be an easy $1000 fix for the inner-structure alone.)
-remove sideskirts
-remove and replace the tailight
-remove and replace the rim/tire
-dismount tire from rim, refinish rim. replace tire
-check for suspension damage (replace any damaged parts)
-wheel alignment
-remove and replace rear bumper
-replace reflector light on bumper.
-after the new quarterpanel has been replaced it needs to be sanded and paint matched to be painted
-driver door will need to be disassembled, (door handles, sideview mirror, mouldings, window glass) and prepped for a paint blend.
-rear hatch will need to be disassembled of any parts (handle, glass window, moulding, decals), and prepped for a blend
-rear bumper doesnt look like it needs to be replaced (according to the picture) and can be prepped for a blend.
put everything back together. and VIOLA !
but you'll never really know how much this is all going to cost, and if it will eventually salvage the vehicle's title or not untill you talk to insurance. In the meantime, if you can drive it, take it to an autoshop they do free appraisals. they'll tell you upfront if your car is fixable through insurance with a clean title, or will be salvaged.
I run a body shop, this is 100% fixable but whether it is in the eyes of a insurance company is another story. The first comment covered most of the quote really. He must work for a body shop. I think he left out a bent control arm or knuckle though. It's 100% drivable if you fix the suspension components. As a shop owner i would recommend getting the frame measured out. I don't think it should have been altered with, but who knows. It's never known in any wreck. I think its mostly just a quarter panel replacement really. Then fix the wheel or replace.
