This might be a stupid question, but I'm putting a b20b into my crx and I need to take the crank pulley off to get to the timing belt and water pump, But I can't get the crank pulley bolt off for anything, is it reverse thread??? please help asap!

 

Not its not reverse thread. You need to rig up something to stop the pulley from turning. Or you need a really good comperssor and a good impact

 

Go to auto zone and get a chain strap I cant remember how much it was but it was worth every penny.

You need that tool, and a ratchet to attach it to, and a BIG *** breaker bar. Heat it up, taking care to not melt the rubber, spray it with wd40 or pb blaster, wait 10 mins, spray again, heat it up again. then put the pulley holder on and rest it on something so it doesnt turn. Then put your breaker bar on and using all your mite try turning it. If it doesnt work, put your entire body weight on the breaker bar.

They torque the hell outta those bolts, something like 180+ lbs, I literally had to stand on mine with both feet and jump.

Also, the ratchet (or breaker bar) you need should be 1/2", I broke a 1/2" to 3/8th" trying to break the bolt.

 

180+????? thats a bit much try 130 ft lbs. anyways i use penetrant and tap the bolt with a brass hammer to help loosen the bolt

 

PB Blaster + 710 ft*lb impact gun = gets it every time.

 

I got one in my garage now that I had to get a tire truck to come by and put the 5/8 impact on to get it loose.

 

impact gun gets the job done for me...

 

I don't know what the hell is wrong with mine. I used a 1/2 inch big *** breaker bar and jumped on it, pulled it, pushed it, had my friend do the same, used a impact gun and air ratchet (weak compressor though only 100 psi), hammerd it etc. I actually got the pulley to stay still by rigging up a big *** U bracket, a 26 MM wrench and my floor and the U bracker actually bent sideways and the 23 mm wrench almost snapped, and I even tried tapping it with a hammer while I was doing it, needless to say it didn't budge. who knows .

 

looks like you are going to have to use an impact socket, breaker bar, and some sort of "pole" to slip over the breaker bar, for leverage, to get that bitch loose. Ive done it this way a few times and it has worked for me. HTH
