Default obx manifold problem

hey i just got back from a friends house were my buddy was installin an obx manifold on the moderatley built d16, everything went together alright a few adjustments here and there and when we went to start it up it started and immediatley revved to redline so we switched around a few vacum lines and it still did the same thing after doing this 10-15 times we decided that its either a vacum problem or the gasket is leaking and the air is comin in around the manifold-head gap. also when is revs after the start it has a loud whistle could that be the air gettin sucked in through the wrong place? and if it is around the mani-head gap how would we stop it?
