Little amateur bondo work...
So today after looking at some threads doing some research. I headed to my local Autozone. I picked up...
60 grit sanding block
100 grit sanding block
320 grit sanding block
Naval jelly
Sandable primer
Red rustoleom
Clear coat
This is what is started out...
Popped off the acura emblem. Then sanded it down to close as I could with 60 grit to bare metal. Since the most of it was surface rust but turning into real stuff and trying to eat through, I used the naval jelly to get into the little crevices. Worked great.
Cleaned the jelly off and sanded it a little bit more. Then applied bondo. First coat did it real thin but made the bondo thick by adding more hardening cream to close up the holes. Waited 5-10 mins, sanded with 60 grit. Rinse and repeat 3 more times. Then smoothed it more with 100 grit, then 320 to perfection.
See how smoooooth.
Wiped the hatch area with a suppppper small amount of soap and water on a paper towel, then dried smooth. Then applied 3-4 coats of primer, sanding with 320 grit in between each coat.
After this I painted 4 coats of red and applied 1 coat of clear, in the process of sanding between the clears I messed it up and had to start over. It was comming out veryyyy good until then and I was very surprised Since I had to start over I also did the integra and Acura badges. i'll post finish pics tomorrow, I bondo'd and sanded them and called it a day. I would suggest doing this before a paint job since you probably won't match the pain very well.
If no one cares about my first little ( well kinda big) write up.. *shrug* I was proud doing my first body work.
Thanks for looking.

if he were to do that, when he takes off the tape there will be visible lines that will look very tacky, you cant paint a part of a body panel, you have to paint the whole thing

I have a gun but my air compressor sucks, too small to paint so I just used little rattle cans.

I tried to get them out as best I could with a point tip with my grinder. Those little buggers are in there!

what exactly does naval jelly do? I've got spots of rust on my two rear fenders that I want to take care of, but right now it's just sanding and touchup paint. Is there any affordable way to get rid of them for good or at least for a long time? Also I've got like chips on the hood where rust is developing too, what should I do there? thanks
very nice, i have a few dinks on my left fender that i really wanna get rid of, its bugging the crap outta me, but i dont know if its a good idea to mess with it since i've never done any bondo work before...anyhow, nice job!!

before I did this I searched this board a ton and found out everyones way of getting rid of rust/debagdging thier car... Someone said in one post use a product called naval jelly after you sand down to bare metal to make sure all the rust is gone. So it pretty much just cleans everything up super good. =]
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Wolfwood »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">also, how's the spray paint and clear coat look? i mean i doubt it'd look factory, but is it passable? i'm considering doing that with my car, but i'd need to match the color</TD></TR></TABLE>
the color of my car is that R81 or something I think, I was too lazy to go to a dealer and get a color match, or try and find one. Anyways, my paints faded everywhere so I just got a red. =] I'm going to get it painted soon and right now it's not even registered, i'm dropping the engine out tomorrow and sending it to the machine shop then spraying the whole body... so this is just like a learning expiernece type deal. =]
