What is the Best ECU to use on a EG civic with a JDM GSR motor I/H/E ???

I have a P28 in mine. Chipping will help find tune the fuel situation. For whatever reason, mine is running really rich so I get not-so-good gas milage (30mpg or so). I've heard of people getting upwards of 35+mpg with turbos, so obviously tuning won't hurt.

 

yah i heard that the p28 is a good ecu to use... ease of tuning also no knock sensor

 

i allready own a P28 ecu non chippet, would a p72 1995 gsr ecu bee better for my motor with i/h/e? or other???

why not just use the p72 gsr ecu and take advantage of the secondary butterflies? Using a p28 ecu on the gsr intake manifold would cause you to lose all of your low end torque and hp, up until vtec engages.

Using the p28 ecu on a gsr would only be advantageous if you used a single runner manifold like the skunk2.

p72 is fine.
You can always sell your p72, they seem somewhat rare nowadays and usually worth more than a p28.

Then use that money from the p72, and get hondata for the p28. Best route imo.

Get ur p72 chipped to run uberdata and get it tuned

What is your goal?

Do you want to keep your setup relatively stock?

Do you want to get the most power out of your setup as possible?

If you want to get as much power as possible (on your budget) then I would suggest getting a single runner intake manifold (e.g. Skunk2, AEBS, etc.). In this case either a chipped P28 or a USDM OBD1 P72 will work the same.

Do you have a USDM or JDM P72 ECU?

Soo heres the deal !!! option 1 or 2 please help me here...

option 1) keep p28 ecu, buy skunk 2 mini. $350 /get ecu chipet?tuned?? $? not sure what kinda or how much...

optin 2) take out p28 and buy p72 ecu $200 pay some one to intall and add nock off senser $?

im going to keep car farly stock just i/h/e and may be cams... and than i think all stop.

dont have a hole lot of cash but do have a lil bit saved.. i just want to do it right and get the best band for my buck...

Go with option 1

 

Yeah, if you do decide to go with option one, install your manifold, then take it to Neetronics in Mississauga and let Paul chip it and tune it for you all in one place. They do exellent work there, I had my 1.6EL tuned there when I turbo'd it.

GS-R engines run like **** with the stock manifold unless you have the right P72 GS-R ECU with it.

Even a Type R ECU would run it like ****.

 

yeah a p28 will work but thats a b16 ecu so you arent fully getting all the power that motor can get so you should use a p72 which is an obd I gsr ecu.. call japan direct 1-888-518-7341 to get that either of those ecus.....

What?

Dude a P28 ECU comes from the SOHC VTEC equipped 1992-1995 Civic Si/EX. They can be rechipped to run a B16A, a B18C5, etc. etc., but they are not stock B16A computers.

P30 is the B16A ECUs until the 99-00 Si came out.

 

Im glad u brought up this question bcuz i was wondering which ecu I was gonna use. It makes sense though to use the p72 since ur car isnt heavily modified.

Here is my advice to you:

Since you want to keep your car basically stock and you are on a budget, I would recommend keeping your GS-R intake manifold. Next, sell you P28 (easy to do), get a USDM P72 (make sure the IABs are wired up correctly), and have the P72 reprogrammed.

A GS-R with I/H/E and a good ECU will run very nice on the streets.
