Default stale gas

if my car was parked with a full tank of premium fuel since last october and I started driving my car now (july 20th/05) would my gas have deteriorated such that I can't drive in vtec?

I live in alberta where the winters are moderately cold so I would imagine that the winter months probably helped preserve the fuel.

I did use fuel stabilizer in my gas and when I started driving my car I also dumped in a bottle of octane 104+ octane booster as well as topping off the tank with fresh premium fuel.

My motor is a jdm b18c type r engine.

It did have trouble starting at first but and drove a bit crappy for about 10km's and then after I drove over 50 hwy km's the car drove as if I was driving it normally.

What precisely happens when fuel ages? Does the ocatane rating drop? I know stale fuel doesn't burn as well but my main concern was to prevent engine knocking/detonation.

Thanks

I had my R parked outside in Toronto. She had a bit of trouble turning over and then drove like a dream right away. (due to a dead battery...shoulda taken that out) The stabil should have kept the gas fine. All the same I wouldn't be screaming VTEC at first.
