ur gonna nead a headgasket and theres a good chance ur gonna have to resurface the head. but it all depends what the head comes with. with the head ur gonna need camshaft, vtec solenoid, vtec oil pressure, cam sprockets and so on. you can use ur old intake mani. and ur exhuast mani. but there **** out of a dx so i wouldnt recomend ussing them. and you can use ur stock harness and just wire vtec to an ex/si ecu. and i would reccomend using a jdm d15b head cause its the best out of the single cam vtec cause it has different stages of vtec and its the same liter as your block. the other ones are bigger and cause less compression.

http://asia.vtec.net/article/d15b/ theres some info on the jdm d15b. if u dont do a mini me then id suggest getting that motor if ur on a tight budget. if u dont get it id look into a ls but i raced a eg6 ls h/i/e/spark plug wires and he barly pulled me in 3rd . i like them cause not to many people kno about them. ive had people ask me about my car and id tell them my d15b swap and they gave me a weird look lol but anyways thats me suggestion getting a d15b head.

u can get a complete head for 75 to about 2 somthing. check ebay theres always heads goin on there. and i payed close to 200 for a p28 skunk2 chiped ex/si ecu. but u can go to a junk yard and get one for dirt cheep and chip it urself. and a head gasket complete set ran me about 200 somthing for my prelude but im sure its hella lot cheaper for a civic. u can find jus the head gasket itself for around 28-50 sum bucks. all together ur lookin at about 3-500 bucks. its worth it. i got a jdm d15b in mine with i/e/h/chip and i beat a new audi a4 with the 2.8 6 cylinder. the dude was pissed to lol and the best part my girlfriend was with me and she was laughin. and i also beat my friend vr6 passat with i/e we race all the time and i pull him in 2nd and 3rd

does the p28 have to be chipped?I can't use a stock p28?

what is a complete headgasket set?I thought a headgasket was that rubber seal that goes between the valve cover and the head

lol u make me laugh. a p28 is just a chip for the ecu to make the vtec kick in harder and sooner, rev higher, different fuel curves and so on. what you need is a ecu out of a obd1 civic ex or si (92-95). thats it. you CAN use ur old ecu but its only gonna rev up to 5600 rpms and no vtec if i am correct. (and yes u do have the d15b7 my fault on that one). and about the head gasket ur talking about the valve cover gasket the head gasket is a triple layered steel gasket that goes between the head and the block. and a full head gasket set includes head gasket, intake mani gasket, exhuast mani. gasket, tb gasket, valve cover gasket, and some of the gaskets for the radiator housings and ****. if u really want to talk to me about it im me at rexracer182 on aim or aol.
