Question About Piston Rings
Okay, I know quite a bit about engine work and such just from doing a lot of DIY on my CRX but I haven't really messed with anything inside the block. Now, what I'm wanting to know is if you have a broken piston bring, or one that is warn down enough for oil to get past it, will it effect your car's performance? I'm assuming it would because that type of leak would alter the compression I'd think, not to mention the oil burning would fry the spark plugs.
See, I've had a problem with my car for a while now where it's been burning oil and getting worse, and as it got worse it just didn't want to run right. Now as I drive it more and more it's starting to get all jittery while I'm going down the road about 50+ mph and it feels like it's running on 3 cylinders instead of 4. I plan on buying new rings for it just to be on the safe side as that's the only thing I haven't checked on it yet.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Peace,
Zack

Perform compression and leakdown tests on the engine. This will help locate your problem. Also when you install new rings you will need to have the block honed or the rings may not seat right and you will be having the same problems again.
Alright, thanks. Thought about checking the compression but I just didn't feel like taking off the valve cover and the timing belt cover(have to take off the valve cover because it overlaps the tb cover). Guess I'll take my car to the shop and have Ed check the compression for me. He's as curious to what's making my car run funny as I am. I honestly think it's just bad gapping on the spark plugs. It's amazing how something that small of a problem can make your car run like ****.
As to the other question, my engine is a d16y8 on a d15b7 block. For the most part the head is pretty new with the exception of what I've put on it myself, new headers, exhaust, hollowed cat, etc. Have a cold air intake and about to put on a new intake manifold once I get sensors to put on it, as well as a throttle body(expensive bastards they are). Also have to buy new injectors and another fuel rail.
Too much stuff to buy just to make it a little bit faster. Wish I had 40k so I could get something that comes stock with 400hp.
