Default Need some help w/ Tranny Housing!! Damn Thing Won't Fit Together!!!

Ok, here's my problem (for a while), tranny case won't fit back on. At first I thought that damn circlip thing was blocking the case but that wasn't it, and the dowel pins aren't touching either. I'm stumped! I'm supposed to start my swap tommorow but I can't get my tranny together, someone help plz!

PS. The only reason I opened up the case was to remove the shift rod (that connects to the shift linkage) so I can punch out the linkage-pin. I unbolted that, the bolt w/ the spring + the ball-brg and the mechanism thing that does the shifting (dunno, but it has 3 10mm bolts). I bolted everything back together (to my knowledge) and noticed it doesn't shift easily (mayb b/c there is no oil in there), but my main focus is now the actual getting the case back on, so plz. guys come thru.

Thanks.

Play with the shift rod , the reason it wont close is because the shift fork is not align right. You need to play with the shift rod, when I say play I mean shift it into gears. Once it goes down, dont forget the snap ring. Hope this helps

Thanx, I'm gonna try that - I heard 3rd gear, 4th gear, etc... I can't seem to get it to go into 1st or 5th, etc... the shift rod won't "tilt" to let me select the other gears - could that be b/c of lack of oil? or could've it been b/c I tightened something too much (bolts were @ 5-6lb/ft).

Sounds like one of the shift forks isn't aligned. It's happened to me before.

Same thing happened to me after I rebuilt my tranny. It wouldn't shift into 1/2 or 5/r. I wasn't sure what the problem was, but I didn't want to put it all together to test it and realize that I would have to take it all apart again. I traced the problem down to the interlock guide bolt. It is an allen head bolt that points from the clutch bell housing towards the tranny. I filed down about 1/8" off the end of it, and I was able to shift just fine. That was 25,000 miles ago and no problems yet.

Oh, and the tranny case is a bitch to get back on. Speedracer is right, just keep playing with it until it slips on. Don't force it.

Oh crap, I think I'm lost - I'm not sure where this "interlock guide bolt" is at, is it around the where the shifter-rod goes to that mechanism looking thing? I dunno, think I'll just bring it to this shop in hartford that deals w/ hybrids. Crap this sux, another day lost

It's real easy to find. Hey are you in hartford, CT? I live in hartford, so if you need I could probably come over and help you out. E-mail me at teraflop2001@hotmail.com and give me your phone #. I have some time tomorrow between 11am and 4pm. Every shop that I know in hartford are frickin idiots. I would never bring my car to any of them.

Yeah, unfortunately I saw this post after I dropped my tranny off @ M+T in the north end. I kinda trust them, but I also like learning how to do this stuff by myself instead of paying sum1 my hard earned $$$ to do something I can do. But anyways, I e-mailed you, so hit me back up.
