Default Something Has to Be WRONG.

I just rebiult the motor in my civic w/piston rings, crank mains, head gasket, cam seals, valves and it is smoking. When I start it has a white smoke coming out the muffler. but when i turn the ac on the smoke clears up. It smells like it is running rich but it's not. So whats wrong?

Any help will be great.

From your description of the problem, you're buring coolant.

this could be due to 2 reasons, blown Headgasket, or cracked sleeve

if it was a cracked sleave it wouldnt run at all would it? i just had the head shaved too when i rebuit it so i dont think it could be a head gasket.

Yes, it will run with a cracked sleeve, but will do the things you say its doing.

Time to compression/leakdown test.

did you hone the block at home and when you replaced the valve how were your valve guides? when replacing the valves, the vavle guides should be check and the seats must be regrinded.

Did you deck the block also? More than likely your head gasket is not sealing. Did you also remove material from the locating dowells for the head. If you machined a lot from the head the dowells also have to be shaved down otherwise they will prevent the head from sealing.

Ah thanks for all that info guys but I,m not worried about it too much. When I do my dpfi to mpfi swap I look at the motor and probably do a compression test. The reason not worried about it so much is im just going to be driving to work and school. Im just going to wait till something happens.

thanks again for the info!
