Default New Speakers in '98 EX Coupe

I just wanna drop some new speakers in my car. Will the 6 1/2 front & 6x9 rear fit behind the stock covers. Or are their certain ones that do and don't? I want it to look as stock as possible. Thanks!

Most 6x9s will fit no problem, the 6.5" are a diff. story, the depth of most 6.5" speakers will be a problem, although you can find ones that fit, there are ways to "add" some depth to the stock location, if you want it to be easy, remove one each of the speakers and take them with you when you go shopping for new ones, so you can match the mounting depth of the speakers 94

the infinity shallow mounts fit "snugly".. the pioneer TSG's or whatever the lower set is fits without any issues (of course sound quality will suffer)

TSG's suck! Infinitys arent much better, all highs.
build ur own spkr plates out of MDF put some quarts in there if ur willing to buy an amp. if ur not, then look into eclipse spkrs they are shallow, and actually a 6" (hondas dont have 6 1/2"s they have 6") and they sound awesome for basic coaxials.

I got new Pioneer 4 ways (6.5's) for the front and 6x9 3-ways for the rear of my Accord. The 6.9's were way too tall (the center thingies) for the stock covers. The fronts were way too long for the mounts in the front doors...

Funny... I'm going to install a set of 6.5 components in my girls ride and it is a 98 civic! I notice though that the speakers are actually mounted on the doors so how would one go about making an MDF bracket for that?

for the rear speakers, try that. that method saves you from removing the seat, side panels and deck.

for the front speakers, are those cup things made into the door panel on these or are they screwed to the door seperately? either way, you can get most speakers to fit by trimming that out (read: cut a hole in it).

i had over-sized 6.5" midbass speakers in the rear of my civic, mounted up to the original holes......but that was the rear.....and my civic was a '95

In the 6th gen Accord coupe the rods that go accross the trunk immediately below the speakers are a problem for MANY 6x9s. This is unique to the coupe - the sedan doesn't have this problem. You can try to put a small spacer between the speaker and the top of the rear deck, but you also have to be careful because the speaker grills may hit the top of the speaker if the spacer is too thick. AND you can't just toss the factory rear speaker grills because Honda built the middle seat shoulder belt connection housing into the right rear speaker grill! Honda made this just about as hard as they possible could. Some folks have reported being able to bend the trunk bars - I haven't tried that. Others were successful at using an MDF spacer, and still others have just gotten their speakers to fit right in. I haven't seen any kind of definitve list of what will fit and what won't. The fit guides are generally useless because most do not properly account for the d@mn rods in the trunk, or they give a really useful spec like a maximum mounting depth of "2 inches". Right - try to find a 6x9 with a 2 inch mounting depth!

» Cut out the back of the plastic factory mounting bracket to provide enough depth for your new speakers.

I just got new speakers for my 99 coupe and all I had to do to make them fit is use a dremal and cut the bracket to make them fit. Btw the front speakers I got were:

I found them cheaper at my local audio store because I bought some 6x9's.

romoracing: What 6x9s did you put in your coupe? Did you have to do anything to get them to fit?

I used these:

This is what I had to do to make them work:

I had to splice 2 speaker wires into the stock harness. Fitment was good it just droped in. Hope it works out for you!
