should have a stored code from starting it.
Sounds like you're going through the steps correctly. If it has a code stored from the last engine firing, you'll still turn it to the off position, connect service connector, turn it to just the on position, and it should flash the code that caused the check engine light... if nothing.. then thats very odd.
Not too familiar with the hondata shtuff, but i believe that part stays the same.

To get to the service connector you have to take off the glove box. It's probably taped up with the rest of the other harnesses. I believe the plug is white with 2 wires. It should be the only plug with 2 wires. There will probably be another plug with 3 wires, but that plug is not important. You need to put a paperclip from one wire to the other. Your check engine light will blink a code. Long blinks are 10 and short blinks are 1.

it's eather blue or gray. 2 wire is CEL check conector. 3 wire is DLC (data link conector or "Datastream")

Hmm before everyone gets carried away with under the dash connector, maybe they should find out what year it is....88-89 are in the engine bay, 90-91 are in the car under the dash. You use the timing jumper for it.
