Input shaft bearing going out, worst case scenario
im gettin that damn tranny bearing nosie...the whirring noise in acceleration and decerlaration...i was wondering whats the WORST that could happen
that bearing busted in my friends cx... made the most horrible noise in the world and leaked the tranny fluid out instantly... kinda mocked a rear main seal leaking... when i took it off you could wiggle the shaft around back and forth and when you turned it you could hear all the little broken pieces... so worst case scenario your tranny could take a ****... it may not be the input shaft bearing though... a bad release bearing makes a similar noise... i would change out the release and pilot bearings first and then see what happens
those f-ing bearings **** all the time because honda engineers chose to save a few bucks by using weak plastic spacers instead of steel. but first make sure its the imput bearing before any thing else because if u cant change it yourself its gonna put a huge hole in ur wallet to get it fixed. if yor trans has high mileage u might want to look for a junk yard tranny with some kind of warranty.
: to diagnose this bearing:
1. start the car, take ur foot of the clutch pedal u should hear the grinding noise.
2. depress the clutch pedal the noise should go away if it does its the imput bearing.
WORST CASE SCENARIO: I have a 93 dx. a few years back before i became an auto tech i started hearing the grinding bearing noise and leaking trans fluid. i had a couple of friends who were starting out as techs look at the car and they had no idea what the problem was, so i kept dirving and learned to live w/ the noise. After about a year i started a tech school. my manual drive train teacher immediately diagnosed the problem so we pulled the trans to replace the bearing. what we found was not good. the imput bearing which is the main support for the imput shaft was completely dissentegrated and because i kept driving it for so long the unsupported shaft ground out the bearing seat in the bell housing so I had to replace the whole tranny. my advice is to replace the bearing if the tranny has low miles or start shopping for a new tranny.

Worst case scenario: The bearing gets chewed up, and gets thrown all over the tranny and locks it up. And you'll have to buy a new one.
this just happend to me. I ended up pulling the tranny and it was the input shaft bearing. so i replaced it and the noise hasnt showed up since
hmm my tranny has 120K miles. i got the car at 105K, and it was super bone stock, female driven. when i got it, i did a lot of racing, i never really grinded when i shiftedl, however i did downshift a lot, 4th gear at 40mph, to 2nd gear, it would land me at 5K RPM right at VTEC.
but i only hear the bearing noise during accel and decel. it makes no noise when i depress the clutch or press on the clutch

Mine was making noise for close to 8k miles before I finally got around to replacing it. Worst case I had another tranny to replace it with, but even with horrible noise it lasted 8k.

My tranny sounds like its chewing rocks whenever i'm on the gas. It's been like that for about 5 months, but i'll be replacing it soon. I'm in the same situation, though - i've got another transmission sitting in storage if this one should take a dump. BTW, stock D16Y7 transmission with 120k.

Yeah, mine has been getting worse as time goes on.It sounds like a helicopter at idle. Im just waiting for my friend to finish his b series swap because my tranny is on his car.

u may want to take it apart and check the bearings at each location...
very easy to do, and im in the process of rebuilding my tranny myself</TD></TR></TABLE>
wats up james i sold u the ECU lol
i think im just gonna pick up a cheapass DX tranny for $20 bucks. doesnt seem like theres an easy way out when it comes to tranny bearings

nope no cheap way out. the first time i heard the sound on my tranny i instantly did the test and all signs show it to be a input shaft bearing. within a few minutes it was parked for good. but if its a single cam tranny man just ride that focker till it goes it could last as much as a whole year before it goes. of course once it does throw that tranny away everything will be f up in there.
