Default Starter Shot?

My car has been sitting for about a month now(been doing some upgrades/repairs and i've been away on vacation). I went to try to start it up and all i got was a loud squealing from the engine bay. The car never started up and i just got more squealing. I stopped because i thought i might be messing something up in the engine bay. I've asked a few people what they thought might have caused the noise and they seem to think that the starter might have crapped out. Is this the type of noise a blown starter makes? My car seemed to feel like it was going to turn over but never did and it just kept on squealing. Thanks for any info on this topic.

Well the good news is if it IS indeed the starter its a cheap fix if you find one on Honda-Tech. Roughly 30-40 dollars shipped.

thanks for the tip and the quick response. I just need to figure out if this is the starter. Someone out that has had to have blown their starter and knows what it sounds like.

When your starter went bad it was actually the hold in winding which hold the armature against the flywheel when the car is trying to turn over. The click you hear was the pull in winding moving the armature and it snaping back because there was nothing there to hold it in place.

As for the squeeling, is it a grinding squeel or does it sound more like a belt would when it begins to slip?

it's more of a grinding squeel, it doesn't sound like a belt slipping.

id guess it was ur flywheel. take the starter off and check to see if anything is worn or broken. or try rotating ur flywheel. sounds like the flywheel gear ring is spinning and not the actual flywheel. when my flywheel went, it made a squeeling noise but mine started every other time.

thanks for the reply. Will check the starter tomorrow. I didn't even think of the flywheel. Thanks for the new suggestion.

how would i check if the flywheel was causing this problem? would i just have to eliminate all other possibilities?

He was saying to pull the starter out and rotate the flywheel(you can see it with the starter removed) and check for borken or missing teeth. Take the starter to Autozone or somewhere and they will check it for free. If you need a new starter I have one for a single cam for sale.
