Which shocks should I go for?
Hey peeps. I have a 1998 Civic EX and I'm looking to drop it real soon. Only thing I'm hesitating for is the brand of shocks. Considering I'll probably get Eibach Sportline Springs, and that the car will be going through winter, should I get KYB GR-2 shocks or Koni Red's? I talked to someone who told me the reason in getting Koni Red's is mostly for getting a stiff ride, while stiff isn't quite good for the winter. He said I'd be better off with KYB ($$ cheaper and does the job), but suggested me to ask over here. So that's what I'm doing. Hope to get an answer soon

Alright, its your first post, so im not gonna flame you, but you need to post this in the suspension forum, youll get a lot more responses, and you wont get flamed by anyone. And people here at h-t are always looking out for you, and they'll always let you know loud and clear if you've made the slightest mistake.

Heh alright, I'll check myself out, thanks for the advice. Can someone transfer the thread in the other section or do I have to make a new one?

If you ever plan on doing any real performance driving, whether it's on a track or not, you would be better suited to steer away from GR2's or Tokiko Blue's (HP). For everyday driving, either of those ride very well w/ a nice set of springs, but they are too soft for really pushing the car to it's limits.

u can go with the reds or agx and they are adjustable on the other hand u have gr-2 which is typical oem replacement. for winter i dont any them can handle slippery when wet.

Yeah, I suppose every dropped suspension sucks for winter, but I don't feel like always taking it off or buying a beater. I'll just be driving more carefully.
Anyone else could lighten me up, help me make a choice?

both are OEM replacement shocks, and i'd use neither in a lowered setup.
you should be looking at the koni yellows, KYB AGX, and Tokico Illumina for this particular application. they cost extra money, but they're the "right" part for the job and can handle the extra strain put on dampers when you lower a car.
I'd recommend the AGX as they're the cheapest, and suitable to your application.

Exactly what I was going to say.

Alright, AGX seem more recommended by you guys, I'll take that in consideration. Another thing I was wondering, how do I know if I need a camber kit?

odds are, you wont need a camber kit, even if it looks like you do. Just make sure you get your car aligned asap after you lower it. Honda specs say that for even tire wear camber can't be any worse than -1 but i've seen a guy with -1.6 run fine with just an alignment.
Koni has a kit out with there Reds and Eibach sport lines, they are made to work to gether and i think the shocks are specilly valved. WEll an way my friend has this kit on his 97 ex coupe and to mee ti seem liek the perfect drop and increase in handeling for the street.

Thx for the reference, pretty good site! I'll make sure to check it out, and read the reviews.
Also, is the camber the same for a specific height reduction for every car or is it always different? If there's a specific height to reach the -1 or -1.6 camber, what would it be?
