they're 25 bucks a piece, and i was thinking about getting it for a while, but a friend of mines got it and it burnt the headlight wire, so both of them stopped working and we had to hook another piece of wire to the battery from the low beam wire to make it work temporaly.

is it worth the money and has anyone had their wires burnt from this? oh yea my buddys car is a 91 dodge dynasty

 

Aren't they 25 for the pair? I have them, and they're ok... not a whole lot more powerful than stock, but they're definitely more white.

 

i have them too, and they work fine. they are better than stock, but still suck in wet weather, like every non HID light. i've had them for a while, no complaints

 

I have them and they havent done anything to my wires. Last I checked the Autozone in my area has them for 19.99 each. There not as cheap as some of the other bulbs out there, but they def look better.

 

If they burnt the wires then they were probaly the wrong wattage bulb. I think they should be like 55 watt low and 65 high (I could be wrong) and the ones he got were more than likely too high a wattage.

 

I got them, no probs. And its usually hyper whites that burn harnesses. so if he had those befor thats hat most likely cooked his harness.

Compaired to PIAA's, they are no better than stock. But I suppose in a bind they'd be okay.

 

You can get them for about $25.00 A PAIR at Wal-Mart. AutoZone sells them for $19.99 each.

 

Silverstars kind of suck IMO. You wont see better with them and they don't really look that great either.

 

ive had Silverstars in all my cars and its improves sight by far compared to stock halogens

 

whens the last time you gusy have had stock bulbs in there?

i bought pepboys ones a while ago and one blew so i put both stock ones back in and u can definately see the difference. i cant see she with my stock ones. when i rode in my friends civic with silverstars they were pretty bright, i actually just came back from walmart. 40.89. better than any other place for 55.

im bout to put them in and see how i like them

k i just put mine and i am a little disappointed. u can defiantely see better than stock but not as much as they say. my lights do need to be aimed badly so i know that has a lot to do with it

 

I got mine for $28 a pair a year ago. Compared to the stock ones they are much whiter, but the illumination is the same as stock.

 

Using stock wattage FMVSS108-compliant bulbs will not yield big improvements over a stock bulb. No matter what bulb you get you'll be disappointed by the claims of improvement.

The best bulbs would be the clear capsule high output bulbs such as GE Nighthawks and Sylvania HiVision. They utilize a tighter filament wind and slightly different gas mixture (hence the "Xenon!" on the packaging) to put out a lumens output toward the maximum legal limit and a slightly whiter (maybe 50k or so, probably unnoticeable to most people) light. These bulbs usually form the basis of street legal blue-tinted bulbs like Cool Blue, SilverStar, BlueVision, etc. Even then, these bulbs won't produce eye-popping performance like HID.

Also, if your wires failed due to SilverStar, it may have failed with any other stock wattage bulb.

 

my contention with these bulbs is that in incliment weather, the white light doesn't do much to illuminate the road. i've had HIDs in my other cars and on rainy days, a 4300k (or higher) temp isn't as useful as powerful yellow bulbs/foglights (i.e. Hella).

in essence, the white lighting makes the car more noticable from the outisde, but from the inside, the improvement is negated by the poor illumination at times. when it's dry, however, there is a SLIGHT improvement over stock, but again, it's not worth it, IMO.

 

yea i think they gave me 2 differnt bulbs to. one has a bluer tint to it that the other. but this is up close like 5 ft away, not sure if that makes a difference though. i wish i could take em back but i ripped the package

 

I had silverstars in my civic and they made a little difference, but when I took them out and we put them in my 2001 Ninja ZX12R, they made a whole lot of difference. IT will blind the crap out of you. I think the main thing is the housing that you use, thats what makes the big difference.

 

headlight housings play a big role too...im my old 90 Accord (with the crappy headlight designs) i couldn't see anything with the generic headlamps...until i tried the Silverstars...

Of course you're vision will improve using yellow insted of white in extreme conditions...

also, you guys seen the new sidemarker silverstars? Anyone give them a try yet?
