Default Lightweight flywheel = new tranny noises?

A while back ago I installed a aluminum flywheel on my R. This flywheel failed, as the flywheel rim almost broke loose, which again caused the flywheel to become unbalanced/distorted. I hope that didn't do any damange to the gearbox. I replaced this flywheel with a one piece chromoly flywheel.

I remember after driving with the alu flywheel for a while i noticed a sound comming from my gearbox which very much resemble a bad input shaft bearing. When I put the car in neutral and rev it, I can clearly hear a noise from the tranny. When I push the clutch in, the noise goes away. This noise is still there with the chromoly flywheel.

Is this normal when using lightweight flywheels, or did the alu flywheel cause my input shaft bearing to go bad?

No noise from my spoon flywheel area, maybe its your release bearing,
describe the noise if you can please.

It definatley not my release bearing since the noise goes away when I press the clutch pedal down, and not vice versa. It's also brand new along with my clutch. It's either my input shaft bearing or a noisy flywheel.

I've been told that chromoly flywheels in particular transmits more noise than other flywheels. A friend of mine also have the Spoon chromoly flywheel, and he told me his tranny became a bit more noisy than with the stock flywheel. I dunno what to think.....

I have the same exact noise!!!! I have even attemped to replace the input shaft bearing with a new one and noise is still there....I really hope its the flywheel. I have a ACT prolite flywheel. The noise only comes when there is a certain load, like the A/C. Its weird.

Rather than starting a new thread, I thought I'd add to this old one...

I've been experiencing this same exact noise on my car, took it to a transmision specialist, thinking it was input shaft bearing. They diagnosed the noise by testdriving the car and believed it to be coming from the clutch. I had the clutch replaced soon after with an oem clutch kit, flywheel resurfaced. Got the car back and the noise has all but gone away, I still have this noise but is alot less noticeable than before the new clutch and flywheel resurfacing.

Previous clutch was a Spoon 3 puck, and im guessing the flywheel is Spoon as well (came with the teg when I bought it). As much as I liked how the Spoon racing clutch bites, it was a nuisance to drive to work daily in traffic.

Anyone else experiencing this sort of noise with lightwheight flywheels?

Does anyone notice when they put on a new lightweight flywheel 7.5 lbs the car vibrates a little more and slows down a lot quicker?

Did you replace the throwout bearing when you installed the clutch?
