Default C-Notching a cross member, is it safe?

I recently bought an RLD Turbo manifold and downpipe.
They look GREAT!

The only thing is that it's not clearing my crossmember.

Here is a pic:

So what if I cut the crossmember and weld in a U shape made of schedule 40or 80 tubing? Like this shape:
___ ___
U

Or even a hoop

Would this be safe? I'm not sure if I understand what types of forces these crossmembers see.

Any input would be appriciated. I expect most people will say make a new downpipe. I'd prefer not to. Cutting the Xmember actually sounds easier.

haha with that bar i wouldn't suggest it, see if you can get a better x-member from Full Race made for that kind of clearance issue.

cut the down pipe and get some mandrel bends and re-weld the down pipe.

Damn I hope my far future turbo setup will clear a jimfab crossmember especially since that's what I have on my car right now. I'd suggest against notching the xmember because I'm guessing it would screw up the engineering behind the crossmember and by the size of the jimfab unit would weaken it substantially. That's just a guess though.

The lesson is:
If you use a Jimfab, make sure your manifold keeps the turbo as close as possible to the block.

If you turn the turbo around, you would have more room to work with. Just made this down pipe for a customer and it cleared the stock member.
