Anyone paint their gen 4 jdm headlights?
Hey I was planning on spending the 220 or whatever on a real black pair of JDM headlights, but I came across a sweet deal on the clear one only 100 bucks. So I bought that and saved half the doe. I just really wish they were black tho so my question is has anyone ever painted them? Is it a pain to take apart? I would think I would be similar to doing your tailights (taking out the orange in the tails) puting in the oven and such. Comments?
just to clear the rumor, putting them in the oven is just to melt the epoxy that holds them together....
i would try to sand off as much of the chrome before i painted them as i could, one because you probably wont stick too well and two because you would have to use a thicker, darker paint to cover it without worrying about chips and showing through...
the black housing ones are painted just flat black.....so i think if you sand real well and have a nice, even spray paint stroke, they should come out great....
just be sure to leave enough chrome for the reflector effect around the bulbs...
oh and they are very easy to take apart, OTT did a write up about taking them apart and cleaning, check that out...
this could save a lot of people money...
