Default vtec problems

i have a 00 jdm b16 in my crx and vtec has been goin nuts. i start the car and lit it warm up for a while before i drive it. then when i head out itll work throu every gear for about 20 minutes or less. after that all hell breaks loose. it always works in first and ussaully 2nd, but in 3rd and 4th itll ingauge and dissengauge. iv check the solinoid, reran new wire, change clips for better conection, and it still does it. me and my friends tryed all day and could only figure maybe a bad ecu. does any one know of anything else it could be? what ecu would u use?

Are you running the right ecu? I had to use a pr3 ecu when I switched to a b16a so make sure you have the right ecu.

When you start the car, does it throw any codes? If not how about when vtec doesn't engage after the"20 minutes"?

im thinkin it is throwin a code, i just havent had time to take it to get checked. we checked every thing we could think of and only could come up with the ecu. i saw some type-r ecus on sale for real cheap and heard one would work. is this true?

you can check the codes right at the ecu... theres a lil red LED that will flash.
long steady flash = 10
short quick flash = 1

check the ground to the solenoid. Is the ecu Chipped? if its not its probably throwing a vtec oil pressure code.

I had an odd problem with my VTEC too. Turns out that it was my guage cluster, oddly enough. The speedo was malfunctioning or something (It still read speed) and vtec wouldn't work in 3rd gear. Put in an STD cluster and it worked fine after that
