Default knock sensor problem

just did a JDM H22a swap into my 93 lude S. everything is fine, until I drive for 10-15 min and the temp gauge goes to half OR i rev to vtec soon after start. I get a CEL for code 23, which turns out to be knock sensor CEL. So i went to good ol' honda and bought a new one. Same deal. Now, i used my non-vtec wiring harness and had the mechanic wire up vtec, iabs, and the knock sensor. I know he used un-shielded wire for the knock sensor, and i have heard this wire has to shielded. Anyone have this problem, or know what it could be? I assume it could be one of three things 1)faulty sensor 2)faulty wiring 3)defective ECU. Anything else?
