Default Exhaust Header For B18C4 (same engine as B18C1 GSR) ?

First just say hi as I am from the England, seems like a great forum by the way. Secondly I must say that I do not actually have an Integra, but a Civic MB6 that was only made for the European market, it is fitted with a 1.8 VTEC engine called a B18C4 that puts out about 170BHP. After checking out a UK forum I found that this engine is exactly the same as the B18C1 as fitted to the Integra GSR in the US and the SI from Japan. So I thought that this may be a good place to ask for some advice. Basically I want to change the header and exhaust and CAT as I believe standard ones are not the best. There is limited choice over here and the prices are extortion. I think I will end up imorting from the US, again I will get stung with customs etc but I believe that this is still cheaper.

Anyway I have been looking on Ebay, and also done some searches on here and 2 makes within my budget come to mind, these are DC Sports and Megan Racing, there is cheaper on Ebay but I believe that these are probably garbage!

I am going to get a custom made stainless steel exhaust for my car and fit either a hiflow CAT or a decat pipe, so I probably have the choice of different headers as I can get the rest fabricated to fit! Are the DC Sports 4 -1 and Megan Racing Manifolds a decent improvement over the standard GSR manifold, bigger bore/collector etc? Or would I perhaps be better going for one for a JDM ITR one? Please bear in mind that the only mods that I intend doing are really breathing mods. The general opinion on Megan headers in the UK is that they are crap, however the ones on the UK Ebay website do not look like the ones on the US Ebay and I think that there may be crappy copies! The Megan's are cheaper than DC Sports so maybe they are crap I do not know, but read good and bad things on here.

I just wanted to know what is a good header that will give some BHP gains based upon you guys experience with the Teg GSR? And maybe advice on a good supplier or Ebay trader that does not sell crap. Thanks for any help

David

Well if a DC is in your budget I recommend you go that route. I also have heard good and bad about Megan headers. Also a high flow cat with a custom exhaust would be good too.

As for the EBAY suppliers, go with the sellers that have a good feedback score. Power seller if possible.

Cheers for the help, I was just wondering is there a big difference between the header for the Integra GSR and the JDM ITR by DC sports?

Yes, there is a difference between the DC header styles. The USDM GSR header (4-1 and 4-2-1) both have 2 inch collectors, so that it will bolt up to the stock cat without any modification. Also, the runners and 2.5 inch collector on the JDM ITR make the header a bit longer. Gains are noticeable from using the JDM ITR vs. the 4-1 GSR, so if you don't mind getting a shorter high flow cat made with a 2.5" flange to mate with the JDM ITR collector, then go for it. The only reason to go with the USDM GSR 4-1 is if you want ease of bolting up, and the only reason to go with the USDM GSR 4-2-1 is if you are worried about ground clearance (the 4-1s all hang pretty low and can be dented easily).

Contact kteller8 or SMSP on this board if you want a custom cat made, or you can just buy the JDM ITR header, take it and your car to a muffler shop, and they can make you a custom high flow cat with a 2.5" flange on one side and weld in an o2 bung or 2, depending on your car. The JDM ITR header has one o2 bung on the collector, and in the U.S. the stock cats will either have 1 o2 (94-95, 00-01) or 2 o2 (96-99).

Thanks purplegsr thats what I really wanted to know Think I will go for JDM ITR header, just whether to get a DC sports or a Megan Racing I guess, although I think I am leaning towards a DC Sports rather than the Megan despite it being more expensive. Thanks again!

Civic MB6 with a B18C4. I didn't even know a car like that existed. Lucky JDM/EDM guys and your cars that are cool from the factory. Man, we americans don't get anything fun, do we. Is it a hatch or a coupe?

If your in the uk, you could try contacting a company like longlife exhausts who i believe can custum make cats for you, (think a friend of mine had one done there).

and you thought the sedan was ugly, i've got the same engine (B18C4) in my estate (wagon)
