will a 96-97 hatch work on a 98-00 EK ? my 98 ek was stripped so i purchased a 97 shell to put my 98 back together . 96-97 uses a cable to open the rear hatch , 98-00 has the handle on the rear hatch . i started to run the release cables and noticed the latch where the hatch closes on the 2 cars were different . 97 has a hole and the 98 doesnt .

is there a way to make it work or should i just buy a 98 hatch ?

 

I'm not sure if that's a problem the average guy could fix. It's possible but that's not "average" knowledge. You're asking in the right place though. Good luck.

P.S. I'd by a 1999 hatch if I was you.

 

pretty sure i have all the tools and i know i got all the parts needed to swap . tryin to save myself from forkin out $200+ for a rear hatch

I would say it's workable. Theres got to be a way that you can fabricate something to work with it. If I had done it before I could give you more info, but I haven't. Good Luck.

96-98 hatch will work on 99-00 chassis, but you have to notch some metal on the chassis by the hook to get it the latch on the hatch to close. ha

and forget about the release cable..

Just curious, so did the 96-97's have like an inside the car release, and thats one the release cable is for? Because that would suck if they had it and took it out. I would love to have an in-the-car release for my 98 hatch.
