Default Determining LS year

How can I determine what year motor my b18b1 is? I remember someone saying that if the valve cover has a hose running from the side closest to the firewall that it's a newer motor??

on the head, right above the header there are some stamps. there are like 4 circles with numbers and letters in them. i think it was the second one from the left is stamped the year it was cast/made.

The second one from the left reads like this "8/." so it's a 98 then? It's the only circle that doesn't have two numbers it has a decimal and an eight......

I read elsewhere that it's actually the circle the farthest to the left that tells the year which means I have a 95 motor.

If you unsure on anything about your Integra, chances are you can find out for sure from your Vehicle Identification Number. This guide is valid only for the USA market 3rd generation Integras, other markets and generations may differ.

Example VIN
JH4DB7561WS000001

Separate the VIN like so

J-H-4-DB7-5-6-1-W-S-000001

J= Country of origin
J: Japan

H= Brand
H: Honda Motor Co. Ltd.

4= Vehicle classification
4: Acura Passenger Vehicle

DB7 = Body and engine type.
DB7: 4dr B18B
DB8: 4dr B18C
DC4: 2dr B18B
DC2: 2dr B18C

5= Body and transmission type
3: 2dr 5spd
4: 2dr auto
5: 4dr 5spd
6: 4dr auto

6= Vehicle grade
1: Type R
4: RS
5: LS
6: GS/SE
8: GS-R
9: GS-R w/ leather seats

1= check digit, disregard

W= Model year
R: 1994
S: 1995
T: 1996
V: 1997
W: 1998
X: 1999
Y: 2000
1: 2001

S= Factory Code
S: Suzuka, Japan

000001= serial number

Looking at the example VIN you can tell that the Integra is a 1998 GS 4dr manual.

it's the first circle... not the second one.(assuming you read from left to right)

the first one has the number on it.

Ok so in that thread people are saying it's the second one from the left that tells the year of the motor and in this thread everyone is saying it's the first on the left. Anybody know exactly which one it is? Seems like everyone claims to know what they're talking about but I'm getting inconsistent answers.

I did go look. Infact, I wrote each circles numbers down. I just keep hearing conflicting info from people. I'll take your word for it though because it seems like the logical answer to me.

I find purplegsr to be right a lot about a lot of things here in the integra forum, so go with what he said (at least for the short block, hopefully your head was originally mated to that block) from the other thread:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by tangerinebeast &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> what is the number under the b18b1 on the block</TD></TR></TABLE>

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by purplegsr &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

That is the block id #, you should be able to tell by the first number what year it is. For a b18b, if it starts with 1, it will be 94, 2=95, 3=96, 4=97, 5=98, 6=99, 7=00, and 8=01.</TD></TR></TABLE>

and he also sounds right regarding the head:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by gsrious &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">it's the first circle... not the second one.(assuming you read from left to right)

the first one has the number on it.</TD></TR></TABLE>
