Default vband clamp

n00b alert, please be kind

i recently purchased a car and today i realized my downpipe has a small hole in it from bottoming out the other day...

the previous owner has a vband clamp from the exhaust housing to the downpipe.

i know it sounds simple but i just wanna make sure im doing it right....

do i just loosen the vband bolt and take the nut off? on re-installing it, do i just hook one of the sides to the turbo than move the downpipe to the other side and position it, and then just tighten it down again?
