Going tubro.. EM, Boost controller help
Okay I have decided to go turbo. Now I need to decide what Engine Management to use. I talked with my local shop and they recommended a VAFC since its only a bolt on turbo kit, and they are good at tuning those. Biggest question is, will I need a boost controller? IF so, which one do you recommend and why?
Ask them how they're going to accommodate positive manifold pressure with a vafc.
WRT to the boost controller ... maybe, depends on which kit you get and whether or not it has an integrated wastegate.

Go back to that shop and ask them what kind of crack they are smoking, because I may want to purchase some if it's that 'mind altering'.
NO PIGGYBACK SYSTEMS: Unless you want to rebuild your 'soon to be blown motor', you need to go with a stand alone. Not only is it very safe, but you will also reep the benifits of a quality tune.

Because it doesn't do anything to control timing. Search "VAFC hack" in the FI forum. I reccomend Uberdata, but that's cause I'm cheap. Find a shop that tunes hondata or AEM EMS and go that way.

Not needed for a basic bolt on kit. Just regulate the boost with the wastegate spring.

Depends on what you do with the car. If you're trying to get the most out of the kit, get a boost controller. I recommend a manual boost controller, mostly because of my shitty experience with the Profec B Spec 2. TurboXS Dual Stage boost controller is neat, comes with a switch you mount in the cockpit to go between high and low boost.
The boost controller manipulates the amount of boost the wastegate sees, to tell it to open later to get you more b00st.
Do Hondata/Uberdata/Chrome/Neptune/AEM EMS/whatever. Stay away from the VAFC hack unless you're really going to stay with a low low boost setup and never take it on a road course or do "highway runs".
Find a new tuner. You can have one shop do the install, and another do the tune, or bring a tuner into that shop if they have a dyno. That's what ended up happening to me, CJ Motorsports did the install and first tune with EManage (way better than VAFC hack but still sucks). He brought in another tuner (Whip Factory) because even he knew Hondata was the way to go and he wasn't a Hondata tuner.

I agree. If you're installing a bolt in kit and only driving it on the street I don't think it's necessary.
